Washing soda is a chemical compound (sodium carbonate) that can be used to remove stubborn stains from laundry and is an essential component in most homemade laundry detergent for powder, liquid, or single pod formulas.
Laundry uses:
-dissolved in water washing soda makes a great pre-soaking solution for tough stains such as grease, blood, tea, and coffee stains.
-add to laundry as a booster. Washing soda "softens" water helping other cleaning ingredients lift soil from the fabrics and suspend the soil in the wash water.
Hard water laundry:
Washing soda is especially helpful to use in hard water as it binds to the minerals which make water hard and allows the detergent to be absorbed into fibres properly to clean clothes.
Other home uses:
-For cleaning, mix a solution of 1/2 cup of washing soda to 1 gallon of warm water.
-Use to remove greasy buildup from pots and pans, oven racks, and drip pans.
-Remove coffee and tea stains from ceramics and plastic storage containers.
-Use in the bathroom to remove soap scum
-Unclog drains by pouring approximately a half-cup of washing soda directly down the drain. Then slowly pour about ½ cup of cleaning vinegar down the drain, allowing the washing soda to bubble up. Add a little more vinegar until the washing soda has completely dissolved and you don’t hear any more fizzing coming from the pipes. Flush the drain with hot water, and plunge as needed to disperse any gunk dislodged by the treatment
