Tare is a business opening in the North End of Halifax in Fall 2018. Tare supports people in living a zero waste lifestyle – minimizing the use and consumption of plastic. Tare has a zero-waste coffee shop as well as a store that sells bulk goods, and zero-waste lifestyle items. Tare also hosts a shared workspace where locals can pay for time during the day, as well a space for yoga/workshops during the evening.
Tare was created by Kate Pepler, an avid zero-waster living in Halifax. Kate went to Dalhousie and graduated with a BA in Sustainability, Environmental Science, and a minor in Marine Biology. Upon completing her degree, she was feeling pretty overwhelmed with the doom and gloom narrative, and spent the year after graduation figuring out what she could do for the planet and how she could make a difference. The idea she came up with was Tare. Tare combines all of her passions – oceans, reducing plastic pollution, environmental education, and fostering community – into one business.
