About Athena's Playground

How it started

“Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn and you will”. In December 2019, amid a global pandemic, during yet another online meeting, two friends sat with a glass of wine chatting about the challenges our world faces. There was a common theme around the lack of community and connection our world faces. Not only have we lost the in-person connection we once had at our fingertips, but we have lost focus on self-improvement and continued learning. With that in mind, we wanted to create a virtual space that celebrates unique skills and provides a path to self-growth. This is why we developed Athena's Playground.

Athena’s Playground is an online platform serving a community of constant learners and creating global connections. This platform serves two purposes. The first is to provide a virtual path for anyone who wants to learn a new skill. The second is to provide a virtual space for those with unique skills to share them and be rewarded for doing so.

The benefits of being a part of the Athena’s Playground community

Learners can join Athena’s Playground and browse a range of different skills. Within our Playground, we create a path for you through different Skill Trees to help you find the right lesson for you.

Our Skill Trees (see above) are categories that allow you to browse similar sessions and find which ones are right for you. Within these sessions, learners will be able to go through and improve their abilities. As you improve your abilities your skill level will increase, and more challenging courses will become available to you. Learners will be able to move from Novice to Expert. Once a learner reaches the Expert level, they will be provided with the opportunity to train a beginner session.

Experts in unique skills can join Athena’s Playground as an official trainer. Trainers with our platform will be able to develop their own interactive and engaging sessions and be compensated for doing so.

Athena’s Playground is bringing back the sense of community lost throughout the years in a virtual space, providing a network to connect with others through similar interests and creating a global community of teachers and learners.

Athena’s Playground offers a wide variety of virtual but interactive and engaging sessions for users to attend! Participants can learn any unique skill, whether that be learning how to crochet, making kombucha, perfecting a comedy act, or becoming a master bartender.

Become a Trainer with Athena’s Playground

We recently hosted our first session, “Are You Sure I Can Eat This?”. Here, our trainer, Kaitlyn Touesnard taught participants how to ferment fresh produce. Our participants had great success, had healthy veggies for the rest of the winter and had a great time doing it. Since the session is live, learners had the opportunity to ask the trainer any questions as they made the recipes.

We also had multiple learners who were excited about how their fermented food turned out and they were eager to try this process again in the future: “If it doesn’t go well this time, I’ll have to re-try it again for sure!”- Participant. Not only can you participate and learn from the courses we offer but you can also become a trainer! As a trainer, you will be able to share unique skills on your own time. “I thought I was weird for liking this stuff but turns out other people like it too!” - Kaitlyn

Being a trainer at Athena’s Playground also means that you will get to design your own profile and choose when and how you want to teach! And of course, the best part about being a trainer on our platform is that you can get paid for doing something you love!
