Green Metropolis by David Owen

Thoughts so far: 

Owen makes an interesting argument for the positives of living in cities and the possible benefits to the environment.

He talks about living in New York and the ways in which their transit system specifically reduces the individual carbon footprint of the residents as compared to cities where people live farther apart and may need to use cars to commute. 

Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers / Act Your Age Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert

Thoughts so far:

These are two very different romance novels starring neuro-divergent leads. 

The romance in Honey Girl is sweet, intense, and heady (which suits a book about a Las Vegas wedding between strangers)! But that bubbliness is offset by the very appropriate and serious way the book also talks about mental illness and the trials the main character goes through to get to a place where she can seek and accept help.

On the other hand Act Your Age is a perfect capstone to Hibbert’s Brown Sisters trilogy which has been a huge source of joy for me through the last couple of years. Hibbert’s humour and wonderful characters make it feel like you’re watching your favorite Rom-com and Eve is the leading lady of my heart.

Butter Honey Pig Bread by Francesca Ekwuyasi / All We Can Save edited by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katharine Wilkinson

Thoughts so far:

It’s been a while since I picked up and finished a fictional book but Ekwuyasi’s Butter Honey Pig Bread pulled me in right away. This story focuses on a mother and her twin daughters while balancing the POVs between all three women and it was a fantastic read. 

All We Can Save is a fantastic collection of essays and poetry by various women in the climate movement. It was wonderful to read an educational book that explored the intersectionality of the climate movement, and it was  great to read something that remained hopeful about our future.
