We opened our Halifax location in October 2018. It was Nova Scotia's first zero-waste store and we were proud to make it possible for people to buy plastic-free lifestyle goods and groceries.
We were quickly supported by a vibrant and passionate community. But with the pandemic closures and changes in shopping habits, we saw our sales fall drastically.
Sales have remained well below those of pre-Covid levels, and we can no longer sustain the losses.
Sunday, December 11 will be the store's last day in Halifax.
We look back on our time in Halifax with pride at what we’ve accomplished.
Since its opening, the Halifax store has saved 237,000+ plastic bags and 26,500+ coffee cups from entering the waste stream.
We have also donated over 34.74 kg of food to the Halifax community fridge (and we'll continue to donate from our Dartmouth location).
Our team has been an incredible source of support and inspiration. We are deeply grateful to everyone we have had a chance to work with at the Halifax store, and especially to those who have worked with us through the difficulty of the past few years.
Every single member of our team has poured their heart into The Tare Shop and we simply could not have done it without them.
Now here's the good news. The Tare Shop in Dartmouth will remain open, and we will continue to serve our Halifax clients through online shopping, delivery service, and a soon-to-be-annouced pickup location in Halifax.
A HUGE thank you to our customers, partners, and vendors who have been by our side over the past 3 years.
We are pleased to be able to continue to offer affordable, plastic-free shopping in our Dartmouth location and online.
The hours of the Dartmouth store will remain the same, so please come by and say hi!
