Very easy, very delicious tomato sauce

Our favourite tomato sauce recipe!

OK fam. This is the easiest tomato sauce recipe and takes so little effort!

I make big batches of this and then freeze it in jars. When I need some sauce for a recipe, I just pull a jar out of the freezer to thaw it!

I love making big batches of this when tomatoes are in season and then I have delicious homemade sauce to use all winter long!

Ingredients:

You can use as many tomatoes and heads of garlic as you like! Obviously, the more you use, the more sauce it will make. When I made it last, I used about 10 tomatoes and 3 heads of garlic. You can also get wild and roast red peppers with the tomatoes to make a roasted red pepper tomato sauce.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350º
  2. While your oven is preheating, slice all the tomatoes in half and toss them in olive oil, salt and pepper and some herbs.
  3. Place the tomatoes cut side down on a baking sheet.
  4. Cut the top of the head of garlic off pour some olive oil on top of it and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  5. After about 40-45 minutes, the tomatoes and garlic should be nice and roasted. Put the tomatoes, squeeze out the garlic cloves from the skin, and put them in a blender. Blend until it’s the consistency you like (the more time, the smoother the sauce).

Tip: How to freeze things in jars

The door of a fridge with various condiments

Freezing in jars doesn’t have to be a scary thing! There are just a few things you have to do.

  • Use wide-mouth jars or containers. This will just make it much easier for you when you’re thawing what you’ve frozen.
  • Leave room for the products to expand. I usually leave about an inch in all my jars for the products to expand, if you don’t, the jars can crack! If you are worried about cracking jars, you can always leave the lid off until what you’re freezing has fully frozen.
  • If you need to thaw something quick, put it in a bowl of water (not hot water!). This will help thaw it much quicker than just sitting on the counter. If you’re thawing chickpeas or beans, put some water directly into the jar!
