What laundry stripping is and why you should do it!

You might remember this craze that took the internet by a storm last year, but it's not a new practice by any means, in fact people have been doing it for a long time!

What is laundry stripping?

If you weren't on that side of the internet, let me tell you what laundry stripping is. Clothes, towels, sheets, etc., can eventually collect a build up of soaps, fabric softeners, oils from your body, despite being put through the wash. Stripping your laundry is a great way to get rid of all that residue, and you'll probably be surprised at how dirty the water looks after you strip your laundry!

How to strip laundry

To strip your laundry,  you basically soak your items in a tub or bucket of water for a few hours with borax, washing soda, and laundry detergent. After the water has cooled, you'll drain the water and add the laundry to your washing machine and run it without adding any detergent.

Benefits of laundry stripping

Stripping your laundry removes any built-up residue on your laundry. Our dog sleeps in our bed and stripping our sheets is a great way to get any residue off the sheets that builds up over time.

Stripping your laundry can also leave your whites and towels looking refreshed and brighter!

  1. Fill up your tub (or a big bucket) with hot water and add about ¼ cup of borax, ¼ cup washing soda and ⅓ cup of laundry detergent. Give it a mix with a big spoon to help dissolve everything.
  2. Add in your clean laundry to the tub. Make sure to do similar items and colours at the same time.
  3. Let the laundry soak in the water until the water cools, giving it a stir every hour or so.
  4. Drain the water and add your laundry into the washing machine and run a wash cycle without adding any laundry detergent.
