It's time for spring cleaning!

‘Tis the time of year to get started on all your spring cleaning! I love doing a deep spring clean as it allows us to declutter our homes and create a fresh, clean space. Going through all your things, making piles to donate or sell, finding things you’ve missed, and deep cleaning all those spaces you forget about is such a refreshing way to say bye to winter and say hello to spring!

Here are our top tips to this years spring clean an eco-friendly one

Use eco-friendly cleaning products

When it comes to cleaning products, it’s important to choose ones that are eco-friendly and non-toxic. Traditional cleaning products can contain harsh chemicals that are harmful to both the environment and our health. Look for products that are biodegradable, plant-based, and free from harsh chemicals such as bleach and ammonia.

We sell lots of products that make great cleaning products! We love the using borax and washing soda (or even oxy-bleach) to strip laundry, baking soda and vinegar to clean toilets, and more!

Make your own cleaning solutions

If you’re looking to save money and reduce waste, making your own cleaning solutions is a great option. You can use common household items such as baking soda, vinegar, and lemon juice to make effective and natural cleaning solutions. For example, a mixture of baking soda and vinegar can be used to clean sinks, bathtubs, and toilets.

We also love to use salt, and a lemon cut in half to clean wooden cutting boards!

Donate or sell unwanted items

Spring cleaning is a great time to declutter your home and get rid of items that you no longer need or want. Instead of throwing these items away, consider donating them to a local charity or selling them online. This will not only help to reduce waste but also benefit someone else who may be in need of these items.

If you’re in Halifax, we love donating to Out of the Cold, The Abundance Store, and Byrony House – make sure to give them a call to see what they need and if they’re accepting donations before dropping them off.

Dispose of items properly

When disposing of items during spring cleaning, it’s really important to dispose of them properly. This means separating recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, and glass from non-recyclable materials. Creating piles of things to donate, and making the effort to recycle items (like fabric scraps) properly.

Check out the app HFX recycles! This is a great app where you can type in items you’re unsure how to dispose of, and they’ll tell you where it belongs!

Use reusable cleaning tools

Instead of using disposable cleaning tools such as paper towels and sponges made from plastic, opt for reusable ones such as rags, luffas, or products made from natural materials. These tools are not only more eco-friendly but also can also be more cost-effective in the long run.

Spring cleaning can be an opportunity to not only clean and declutter your home but also reduce your environmental impact. By using eco-friendly cleaning products, making your own cleaning solutions, donating or selling unwanted items, recycling properly, and using reusable cleaning tools, you can create a clean and sustainable living space.
